Music Monday 4.

Quite a few songs this week, been meaning to put some of them up for a couple of weeks, others are pretty new. So I'll just let you listen.

Jonsi - Go Do

Lead singer of Sigur Ros flies solo and does it in English this time. Really beautiful piece of work from a hugely talented and humble guy. (Check out the actual video here, embedding is disabled.)

The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang

No video yet for this song yet as it was only leaked a few days ago. Yet another amazing track from an amazing band with an incredible sound. Nuff said.

J-Cole - Lights out

This guy featured on Jay-Z's Blueprint 3, on A Star is Born. And of course Jay-Z has got it right, a star is born. J-Cole is young, new and talented. Exciting stuff.

Jay Electronica - Exhibit C

Another bit of hip-hop. This is a brand new track yet has that old-school chilled out hip-hop vibe about it which I love. Lovely hooks, sweet beats and clever lyrics.

Foals - Spanish Sahara

Yey a video! I know this is a couple of weeks old now but I forgot to put it in the last couple of posts. Something completely new from Foals and it is incredible. No other words for this track. With about 3 minutes of build up this song just explodes, so beautiful.

Jay-Z and Absolut: Everybody wins.

After seeing a cheeky clip of this mini documentary, there has been a lot of hype for this mini documentary. In just 15 mins, there's interviews with Jay-Z, clips of him rehearsing for his September 11th charity gig, as well as the big man drinking...yes, you guessed it, Absolut.

I think this is a great piece of branded content. Not only was it intelligently leaked and teased to audiences over the past couple of weeks, Absolut have produced something that people actually want to watch. To me, this is the key for the future of advertising. Doing a dissertation on virals, I am really beginning to understand the need to produce content that consumers want to watch and share with their friends. Who cares if there's 30 seconds of Hova drinking some vodka, the rest is really great footage.

Enjoy the stunning and clever filmography in black and white, as Jay-Z does what he does best, talk sense and rap sense. Well done Absolut.

Stumpthing to get excited about.

Having been a Fall Out Boy for many years now, I was naturally pretty gutted when they announced that they split up. Maybe they'll come back, maybe not. Having been enjoying Take This To Your Grave the past couple of days I was excited when Patrick Stump tweeted about his performance at SXSW. It appears FOB's front man has grown up, donning a jacket instead of a hat, slimmed down and generally a different man from the FOB days. However as soon as he opens his mouth, shakes his guitar and stamps his foot its the same guy. His solo stuff sounds really good, a funky electro pop rock fusion. See what you think.

Hat-tricks anyone?

We all know how good Lionel Messi is. Incredible is the word you're after. As highly as I rate the likes of Ronaldo, and in particular Rooney, they simply cannot match Messi's individual skill and threat that he possesses from almost any area of the pitch. I'm looking forward to a Barca - Man Utd Champions League final, a true clash of the titans.

And as highly as I rate League One top scorer Rickie Lambert, I cannot quite say he is as good as Messi, but he'll do for Southampton just fine. Check out the stunning third goal of his hat-trick from the weekend against MK Dons. Click here.

Music Tuesday 3.

Alright, I know it's a Tuesday, Wednesday in an hour, but I have no time at the present. Uni is my life. So I'll keep it short and sweet.

Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happyness

Despite Day N Night being a huge tune initially, it grew very thin on me. However his album, Man On The Moon is really, really good. Cudi takes a careful and considered to hip-hop as you can see from this video. I know that the video of the moment is Lady Gaga - Telephone (check out Kid Cudi and Kayne West sampling Gaga's alternative Poker Face in Make Her Say) notching up 18 million views in just a few days and getting lesbians all wet, but this video shows the talent of this guy. And not a Virgin Mobile or minge in sight.

Fenech-Soler - Stop and Stare

After hearing their song Lies, I've kept an eye and ear on these guys and it looks like these guys are really going to hit the mainstream hard. Lies and the latest offering Stop and Stare, are catchy electro/indie/dance songs that can easily fill a dance floor, but not quite in the same way that Cascada can. Thank God.

Music Monday 2.

Here it is, I know you've all been waiting. So I'll shut up and get on with it.

Futures - The Boy Who Cried Wolf

I know this pop-rock/scene music is not cool now we're all grown up, but I'm not too bothered, I still like it. Having been a fan of Tonight is Goodbye, thinking they somewhat stood out from the rest, I was a bit gutted when they broke up. However, they have now reformed into Futures. And yes they are so much better. Good voice, good sound. The EP is free with Rocksound magazine these week, excited to check that out. Give them a chance and a listen, they deserve it. Possibility of big things here.

Two Door Cinema Club - Come Back Home

I've mentioned these guys before, but they deserve a second mention, and then some. The first single "Undercover Martyn" off their debut album "Tourist History" caught my attention instantly and not only mine as the BBC touted this band for big things this year. After having the album on repeat almost non-stop, it is clear that these boys can produce hit after hit. The fun and upbeat indie-pop sound has never been done better and with surprising maturity from such young guys. It's a tough call, but this is probably my favourite track, but I cannot recommend this album enough, already running for my favourite album of the year.
