So true...

When it comes to incurable optimism in the face of recurring failure, the British remain reliably world-class.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Musical Perfection

Flaws:

Ivy and Gold:

This album can't come soon enough.

Music Monday 12.

Mark Ronson & The Business INTL - Bang Bang Bang

Mark Ronson and the Business Intl - Bang Bang Bang

I know this song has been around a couple of weeks, but it's grown on me massively ever since. Plus it's got a cool video which is always a bonus. Never been a MR fan, but he does know how to make a catchy tune.

Asher Roth - G.R.I.N.D (Get Ready It's a New Day)

It's clear that Asher has taken a big step from debut album Asleep In The Bread Isle. Despite the often juvenile lyrics, AITBI had some awesome beats and rythems and was surprisingly a good album to listen to. G.R.I.N.D gives Roth's music a new level of consideration and depth as well as the familiar catchy beat, new album should be good.

Chase & Status ft. Mali - Let You Go

This song is going to be massive this summer. Yet another collaberation from C+S, straying away from the classic dub beats that we're so used to hearing from these guys, there's a touch of electro and even uphoric dance in this song. And it works. Very well.

Dr Dre ft Jay-Z - Under Pressure

It's unclear whether this is the final version or not. But you cannot ignore a new Dre track, especially featuring Jay-Z. Exciting.

Jonsi Pitchfork Session

Jonsi has to be one of my favourite musicians, whether he's fronting Sigur Ros or singing in English in his solo work, the output is always incredible. It's difficult to attach adjectives to his music; beautiful, magical and epic would be just a few. These are terms that are often thrown about in music, but they fit Jonsi so adeptly, no other words can be used. Jonsi uses instruments in an unconventional way, he uses his somewhat unconventional yet gorgeous voice to produce beautiful, simply beautiful songs. Watch Jonsi's session for Pitchfork TV appropiately set in a lovely church.

Honda CR-Z in RGB.

Honda's new advert for the CR-Z. Love the collection of images, using RGB colour filters to represent the different driving modes. Simple. And simple wins.

If only...

Hopefully this won't matter by tomorrow.

Shad - Rose Garden

A new video from Canadian rapper Shad as his album TSOL is out this week. This album is amazing. I can't stop listening to it. The intelligent Shad uses samples, slick lyrics and nice beats to produce an album that gives you an old school hip hop vibe that is relevant to today, Rose Garden is a great example from it.

Kid Cudi - RevOfEv

The ever incredible Kid Cudi is back. Not that this guy ever seems to leave with contributions to different artists or having his songs remixed over and over again, there is a lot of love for this man. RevOfEv (Revolution of Evolution) is the first song off of follow-up album Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager. Out in September, this album is going to be just as huge as the last.

Lissie - Pursuit of Happyness

Told you Cudi never goes away. This song naturally lends itself to an artist such as Lissie. Lissie is a great talent, who has cover Gaga and Metallic in the past (check out past blog), however this is more than another cover. Lissie seems to stretch herself, yet only doing covers that feel right to her.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Leaving Blues

Yes that is me and some mates dressed as giraffes with BBC. No questions. Apologes for not being able to get the video up on the blog, but CHECK THIS LINK. (The later you click on it, the lower you might have to go through past updates). I couldn't not include this song in the blog this week, it is incredible, beautiful, perfect, so much adjectives to fit this band and in particular this song. I've got a feeling the album Flaws will be of my favourites in a long time, really can't wait.

City and Colour

After listening to Alexisonfire from a young age, I finally got to see them just before Christmas and loved it. They sounded amazing, better than expected. I had a similar wait to see their vocalist Dallas Green in his solo project City and Colour.

Dallas walked on stage to a massive applaud and cheer, and managed a typically shy "hey" to the audience. He and his 3 piece band started to play as the anxiety and excitement grew with anticipation for Dallas to sing his first line, greeted with another massive cheer. The set started electric with Dallas on lead and vocals of course, a bassist and drummer. Mixing a collection of songs from debut album, Sometimes and newer album, Bring Me Your Love as well as a cover, 2 new songs and even an accapella song. The gig was better than expected, Dallas brings such understated presence to the stage and an incredibly impressive voice, not that he needed to sing with the audience knowing every line of almost every song. I would have loved the gig to go on for hours, I was engaged from start to finish with my spine tingling through-out most of it. I strongly recommend seeing City and Colour if he again makes a rare appearance on stage over here. Incredible man, incredible talent.

OK Go - End Love

The kings of the music video have struck again. This is possibly not as spectular as past offerings such as Here It Goes Again or This Too Shall Pass. But it is technically very impressive. Give it a watch.

I Am A Stuffed Animal.

This is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Go to I Am A Stuffed Animal and upload a photograph of yourself and get it made into a soft toy of yourself! Seeming to want as much information as Facebook, you upload your photo, fill out eye/hair colour, hobbies, dress sense and "anything else". But this is information I'm quite willing to exchange for a soft toy of yours truly. It's not cheap, costing you the best part of $100 for internal orders and have to be ordered 7-10 weeks in advance, but they are seriously cool and I want one. (Providing it resembles me in any shape or form, something you cannot discover pre-order.)

Am I willing to cough up £70 for one? Probably not, but I'm just putting it out there, 21st birthday coming up and all that...

Music Monday 10.

Jose Gonzalez - Far Away

Jose has been one of my favourite artists for years now, producing some of the best acoustic music I've heard. He's back with the track Far Away featured on the soundtrack of Red Dead Redemption. I think Jose will struggle to ever live upto Crosses or Heartbeats, but this song is simply beautiful and gives a real sense of calm. I hope a new album is on the horizon.

Mayer Hawthorne - Maybe So Maybe No

I know that this song was out last year, but I've recently really gotten into Mayer Hawthorne. The multi-talented DJ and producer who couldn't find any appropriate soul music to sample, decided to create his own. Just like that. The album is a wonderful piece of work and perfect to sit out in the sun with and enjoy.

Eminem Ft. Kobe - Talking 2 Myself

After Recovery leaked, I've given it a good listen. And wow, Eminem is back. The entire album, in particular Talking 2 Myself, is brutally honest. He pulls no punches as he apologies for the past albums and behaviour, promising to return to true Eminem form, "the new me is the old me" as he puts it. The album has a seriously strong start, this track featured in it, it then continues with colabs from Pink, Rihanna and Lil Wayne. It's a huge album, Eminem is truly back.

Kris Kross - Jump

This song is in no way new but it somehow stumbled back into my path this week. What a tune. That is all.

Cadbury's Flake

As much as I love football and advertising, the constant clinging to the World Cup by so many brands is a bit irritating. This advert is far from irritating, it's simply beautiful.

Music Monday 9.

First week free from education. Now is the time for music.

Lissie - When I'm Alone

After hearing Lissie on Jools Holland, I immediately checked her out. And I pretty much haven't stopped listening to her since. She's a talent; got a good style and a lovely voice. You also need to check out her Lady Gaga and Metallica covers, amazing stuff.

Miike Snow - The Rabbit

After loving the self-titled debut album, it is good to see something new from Miike Snow. And speaking of seeing, this video is bizarre, and I love it for it. Good song too.

Hugo - 99 Problems

Have heard nothing about Hugo until this week, yet this cover of Jay-Z's 99 Problems is incredible. Such an alternative take on the original, creating an entirely different entity. An amazing entity.

Tired Pony - Dead American Writers (Snippet)

Ever thought to yourself, I wonder what would happen if the lead singer of Snow Patrol got together with the guartist from R.E.M, throw in a bit of Belle and Sebastian and a few of their mates? Well no, probably now. But I bet now you're thinking, why did I never think of this glorious mix? Great track.

The End Of Education

As of Tuesday last week I have finished university. I sat my (hopefully) last ever exam in Marketing the Media and walked out to the future. I don't want to get deep, cheesey or even philiosphical about this, but it is strange. Having not taken a gap year I have been in education from the age of 4, 16 years. I have always known what the next step is, it's always been learning from September to about June, and then a few months off and then back in September. Even the change to go to university wasn't drastically different, my year still worked out the same.

Now, there's nothing.

I can now do anything I want, for me this is both scary and exciting. I'm a guy who likes to have a plan and to do know what's going on, and my parents and girlfriend more so. It's not a bad way to be, but it can seem restricting. But I'm not the sort of person to just bum about with a shit job, but maybe I'll have to do that for a few months. I really don't know. I'd love to travel, especially in America, but it's finding the people who want to do the same things and it's definitely finding the money. But I'm looking forward to hopefully finding an exciting job in advertising, possibly moving in with my girlfriend and *cliche alert* living my life.

Here's how my first week of no education has panned out so far:
