I absolutely love this week's post, a good mix.

Twin Atlantic - Free



I've literally had this song on repeat all week. Twin Atlantic provide listeners with some Scottish alternative rock, a poppy Biffy Clyro if you will. This sound is just a massive belter, it doesn't particularly go outside it's comfort zone but it's pounding and passionate with a huge chorus. And that's good enough for me.

We Are The Ocean - The Waiting Room



WATO are very much adopting the attitude of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's clear that the band are definitely going in radio-friendly direction with their new album. Now, that is not always a bad thing, and sometimes its conscious, sometimes it's a natural progression as the band matures. Liam voice is only improving with every song I hear, but I miss it being complimented with Dan's screams, personally.

Childish Gambino - Freeks And Geeks



It was only this week that I discovered that Childish Gambino is actually actor Donald Glover, more fool me. And it was this week that he released his E.P, which is pretty impressive. Freeks and Geeks is the stand out track and naturally the first single. The track is more than catchy, it is the best balance of aggression and word-play on the album, if not a little Lil-Wayne. I don't think Gambino really strikes anyone as a bad-ass black rapper, more white and preppy, and sometimes it seems as if he is trying too hard. It's hard to believe him rapping about bitches and hoes. But nevertheless he's got talent and good flow.

Alex Clare - Too Close



I love this guys approach. A great voice and some great dub/dance production behind his track, a male Katy-B if you will. This track is bound to get some solid radio play and deservedly so. I need to heard some more from this guy.

Tune Yards - Gangsta



I really wanted to finish this week's post with this track from Tune Yards. It's mental. I don't really really know what to say about it, it speaks for itself. I love it.

Music Monday 34.

Here it is, the first Music Monday post of the new year. It's a bit quiet this time of year but I've managed to find a few musical gems for you.

Asher Roth & Nottz - Comin And Goin



It's been a little while since we've heard from our (probably second) favourite white rapper, Asher Roth. Like some artists that have big catchy tunes (I'm looking at you I Love College) sometimes lose their credibility, and I think that Asher has been caught under this. His debut album was surprisingly sharp and strong and was much more than back-up singles for ILC. Comin and Goin is off his latest EP Rawth featuring rapper Nottz and it's a great stop gap between albums, it's fresh, self-challenging, a bit gritter but still as addictive as his debut.

We Are The Ocean - What It Feels Like



I never expected WATO's new single to sound much like stuff from their massive EP or debut album, and I was right. It's still got the speed, melodic guitars and vocals versus smashing riffs and screams, yet it all feels a little too clean for me. It's still a good single, but it feels a little like their trying too hard, stay to what you know boys.

Eminem - Difficult



Wow, this is Eminem at his best. If his latest album Recovery was a massive step back in the right direction, then this track was a massive run, skip and jump for Marshall back to his best. It's a deep, dark and emotional story, exactly what our (probably) favourite white rapper does best.

Bon Iver - Flume (Lanny May Remix)



Similar to Das Kapital's rerub of Skinny Love this similar remix gives this track a whole new life. The Lanny May remix does just enough to rework the track whilst leaving enough in of the beautiful original. Maybe it's just the length of the track, but it lulls the listener into a melodic trance but the amount of space in this truly is wonderful.

Music Tuesday 19

Tardiness due to Bestival. Apologies. But I'm not that sorry, I had a bloody brilliant time. But to make it up to you there's a big mixed bag of music for your pretty ears.


Kanye West ft. Kid Cudi, Common, Pusha T, Big Sean and Charlie Wilson - Good Friday



Followers of the blog will know that a combination of Kanye and Cudi was always going to be up on here. A group bigger than a basketball team have gone into this track, causing it to push the boundary of too many voices, but of course Kanye makes it work. Kanye seems to be churning out a hit on a weekly basis at the moment and sure as hell no one is complaining. Bring on the album.

Kings Of Leon - Radioactive



The mere fact that it appears to be impossible to find an embeddable video for the new single says much about the position that KOL find themselves in today. After the hugely successful Only By The Night album, the band have found themselves very much in the mainstream and progressing away from the old sound of the first three albums. Not that I didn't like OBTN, it just seems a shame to stray away from their original, great sound. Radioactive instantly strikes as a mix of new and old KOL, likely to alienate new "fans", but it's a good song showing the ability to provide a big chorus with solid riffs and rhythms.


We Are The Ocean - Lucky Ones



As WATO prepare to release their debut album in a deluxe edition with the much loved EP and 4 new tracks (of which this is one) it feels as though they are clearly pushing for the mainstream with this track. Not that I hate it, but I'm certainly not a massive fan. The "woahs" and lack of Dan's screams make it much more accessible for new fans and gives it the sing-along factor. Another new track Playing With My Heart, feels much closer to home, yet you can tell the band is progressing and maturing, so there still is hope for old WATO fans.

Jakwob - Here With Me



Jakwob is mainly known for his remixes, particularly of Ellie Goulding, however this track produced on his lonesome, really is something special. The song combines dub beats, the wobbles of the bass, subtle vocals and simple synth beats perfect for the lull in the club. Apart from adding it's an equally gorgeous video, there's not much to add about this track. It's just a bit perfect.


Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Atlas Hands



Apologies for the lack of visuals for this song but I couldn't not post this song. I caught the end of the track and instantly had to scribble down his name. A beautiful voice, cute lyrics and simple strums combine to create a simply gorgeous track. Just enjoy.
