Music Monday 65.

I'm very excited about this week's post, a couple of superb colloborations and a couple of highly anticipated comebacks.

Bon Iver and James Blake - Fall Creek Choir Boys



Wow. There was a huge amount of excitement when this was announced. Two of the most critically acclaimed artists of the last two years join forces, and wow. It is the perfect about of Bon Iver and the perfect amount of James Blake. I don't think anyone expected anything less.

Lady Gaga - You And I (Wild Beasts remix)



Now as far as expected colloborations goes, I don't think this can be put down as one of those. Wild Beasts, again, were one of the most critially acclaimed artists this year with the fantastic Smother album, and Gaga, is well, Gaga. This remix works perfectly. It is dark and haunting, and you get lost in the track, well done Wild Beasts (yes, I'm giving them most of the credit).

Florence And The Machine - What The Water Gave Me



Remember Florence? You know the one that played every festival and had her music on every advert and montage possible? All from her debut album? The debut album was fantastic and deserved the success it got, however, it is definitely nice to hear something new. And with almost a million and a half views in just a few days, I'm not the only one to hear something new. I can't say it is dramatically different from the first album, but if it ain't broke.

Ben Folds Five - House

Ok, I can't find a version of the song that I can embedd anywhere, so the link will do. But it's Ben Folds Five's first song in over a decade. Yep, a decade. If you don't know Ben Folds, he's covered Dr Dre with an orchestra and has had Chatroulette on a projector during a gig. Yeah, he's cool. And very talented, go listen.

Music Monday 42.

It feels like I’m going back to my music roots with this week’s post, guitars. Over the past 12 months for one reason or another I’ve been listening to a lot more hip-hop and rap music, but this week is all about guitars, drums and British rock.

Arctic Monkeys - Brick By Brick



They’re back! The first Myspace band, the proud face of British indie music are back, and in fine form. I wasn’t a massive fan of the last album but as the Monkeys roll on to their 4th album, it seems as they are heading a new direction. It’s a very American blue-sy feel as they steady cruise through the song and then pick it up and go full blast. It’s very cool. No doubt I will get sick of it due to excessive radio play though.

The Wombats - Anit-D



Another back on the comeback, albeit only for their second album, are The Wombats. I am not ashamed to admit that I absolutely rinsed their debut album. It was a perfect piece of indie pop and was just a joy to listen to. Now onto the second album. From this first new song, it’s difficult to work out what the new album will head in, only that it is a much more mature sound from the band. Excited to hear it.

Wild Beasts - Albatross



A different sound now from Wild Beasts, but nevertheless something pretty magical from the boys that are Wild Beasts. Wild Beasts are without doubt a pretty unique band, however Albatross seems like a taking a step away from Two Dancers and is a much more approachable sound from the band. It’s wonderful, narnia-like and a beautiful track. Can’t wait to hear the new album Smother.

Brother - Still Here



Now here’s a band that are definitely not on the comeback and very much on the rise. I have written my hopes for Brother before and with their next single, Still Here, it appears that they are very much still in the mood to bring back Britpop. For me, this song is the most reminiscent track to The Verve and Oasis than their other tracks and is unfortunately not as strong for me as some of their other tracks. But it’s good to hear something new from the Slough boys.

Music Monday 1.

I know I've upload new songs I've found in the past, but I'm going to try and make it a little more regular. Seeing as there is a Monday at the beginning of every week, I might as well do it then.

Wild Beasts - Hooting and Howling



I likes the sound of new music and I likes the sound of Wild Beasts. They're a strange mixture and can only be described as Editors featuring Mika. Yeah I know. But they're good trust me on this one. This is an excellent song and the album "Two Dancers" is also very good. Looking forward to seeing them at Sixty Million in Bournemouth


Frightened Rabbit - The Modern Leaper



I appreciate that Frightened Rabbit aren't the newest band in town, but they're not exactly U2 yet (thank God). The album "The Midnight Organ Fight" has a great tempo to it that doesn't let up, letting you listen to the album straight the way through with ease. It could be argued that the songs are a bit "samey" but not always a bad thing. I like it anyways.


Professor Green - I Need You Tonight



Something a little different, variety is the herb of life and all that... Professor Green is just being introduced to Radio 1 and is surely about to hit the mainstream hard. I'm a bit of a sucker for old school tunes samples in rap and hip-hop, this is exactly what Professor Green does. Green has taken the INXS classic and intelligently uses it as he does what he does best over the top. Excellent, excellent tune (sorry it's not the greatest version of the song, I've been hunting around for it for days). Also check out his tune with Lady NY, Don't Let Go and also what he's done with Adele's Hometown Glory.
