Drake: Take Care + HYFR

Having not released much a visual accompaniment to his much acclaimed second album Take Care, Drake went and dropped two new videos in one day, lucky us. There are Take Care featuring Rihanna, and HYFR (Hell Yeah Fucking Right) with Lil Wayne. Both very different videos as Drake shows his versatility as he did on the album. He's as serious and contemplative as he is fun and childish. Drake has never been afraid to open up and contradict himself, showing that despite being a hip-hop superstar, he's just as screwed up as the rest of us. Both well worth a watch in their own right:

Take Care ft Rihanna

One of the most popular tracks on Take Care as Drake and Rihanna rework Jamie XX's rework of Gil-Scott Heron. The filmography is stunning in this, some incredible shots of birds, fish and a bull in between Drake and Rihanna cuddling. The colour and editing reflects the mood of the track perfectly, really good work from director Yoanne Lemoine.

HYFR (Hell Yeah Fucking Right) ft Lil Wayne

Completely different video here perhaps a bit more 'classic hip-hop', shall we say. Party, girls and champagne etc. However like most of Drake's songs, take a more careful (yep, intended) listen and you begin to appreciate his music a lot more. And let's hope that Lil Wayne's panda balaclava doesn't catch on. Or maybe it's already caught on from Frank Ocean. Plus, take note of mini-Drake's serious, yet super cute, dancing skills at the beginning.

Kanye X Rihanna's Boobs X Hype Williams X Cudi X Typography X LIGHTS.

Just reading the title of this post should give you a big enough incentive to watch the new Kanye West video. So I'll shut up and let you.

There is so much that this video has going for it. Sure it's not ground-breaking, but personally, I think that Kanye's has done more than his fair share of ground smashing recently. The direction from Hype is amazing, unsurprisingly the use of lighting is perfect and somehow not over the top. Taking a leaf out of Cee Lo Green's music video book, the typography is spot on (although it is an easy option). And who ever designed Rihanna's lack of outfit should be given some sort of reward.

Quite A Foursome.

This was always one of my favourite tracks off of Eminem's Recovery album, and with it featuring Rihanna it was always going to be a single and a big single at that. Now the video has been released I think it requires a bit of attention. Not a massive amount, but a fair bit.

The cast is the main selling point to this video, obviously Eminem has his part as does the ever-stunning Rihanna, however there are two familiar faces on show. Charlie from Lost/Hobbit from LOTR short-man Dominic Monaghan is either beating up or snogging the ever-hot Megan Fox, the lucky chap. Oh and there's a lot of fire too.

Music Monday 5.

No update last week: Dissertation.
Late update today: Dissertation.
Crappy youtube videos: No blogspot mp3 uploader.
This week: A lot of hip hop.

Big Boi - Shutterbug

Big Boi from Outkast. This song is mental. Mental beats. Listen.

Aloe Blacc - I Need A Dollar

Lovely classic old-school sound to this song, and really nice video too. Does stop very abruptly though. It's also the theme tune to my new favourite TV programme, How To Make It In America. Check the trailer here. I'm instantly hooked on this show, it's young and positive, and not trying too hard, which is rare in an American TV show, it also features my new favourite man Kid Cudi.

Rihanna - Rude Boy (TC Remix)

Not exactly a huge Rihanna fan, but I don't hate her. But I love this TC remix. It completely changes the song without distracting you from the original, a sign of a great remix to me. Be sure to hear this in clubs instantly.

Chemical Brothers - Escape Velocity

This. Song. Is. Massive. Literally. This is 12 minutes of carefully considered and mastered, yet wild and mad beats. It takes it time and doesn't rush anything, then explodes. Amazing.
