I've always been a big fan of advertising of games. With the huge budgets and even 'huger' resource of special effects they have at their disposale, it is not surprisingly. However it was left to Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, probably the biggest game of the year, to do something different (refer back to the huge budgets):
In the deathmatch arena of marketing, Call Of Duty has just used the "celebrity" perk. In an attempt at one-upmanship over its Battlefield rival, the team behind Modern Warfare 3 has ahead of tomorrow's launch unveiled "The Veteran & The N00B", a real-world re-enactment of the game's infamously immersive multiplayer mode starring Avatar's Sam Worthington, Moneyball's Jonah Hill and NBA baller Dwight Howard. The nods to the series are plentiful (isn't that a SCAR-H with red-dot sight that Worthington's wielding?) and we particularly like Hill's hapless "Should I have used a knife?" Still, we can't help but feel that if it were really accurate to the game, the veteran wouldn't be played by a chiselled Hollywood star but rather by an oily-faced 13-year-old screaming "You just got pwned!" Brilliant.

Dead Island.
The gaming market is now huge. Huge. HUGE. Gaming, whether it be on a Playstation, Xbox, computer or Wii, are becoming more advance by the second, half the time you don't even need to use a controller. And it only makes sense that the more competitive, and richer, the market becomes the quality of the advertising is driven up (note - this is not always the case, some people are more than happy to put out mediocre at best ads).
This trailer for Dead Island has taken it up a notch. Above all the CGI is incredible, almost life-like. In a short space of time you become connected to the characters, you instantly become involved in the game, could the advert do any more? The execution of the ad is simply stunning.

Halo Reach: One To Remember
Xbox have followed up their award winning Halo advert is yet another stunning advertisement. I wouldn't describe myself as a massive gaming fan, certainly not an Xbox or Halo fan, Playstation through and through, however I am definitely an advertising fan. Within a few seconds of this advert, I was sucked in, the music, slow-motion, high energy scenes all combining beautifully. I know nothing about Halo but was engrossed in the action and characters, almost upset when he appears to die at the end. I was surprised by the effect it had on me, a fantastic advert.
